Background
Local Government has faced severe challenges since the credit crunch in 2008 with funding cut by successive Governments and resulting in a reduction in capacity, while at the same time trying to deal with the big issues of social care and climate change adaptation and mitigation.
This lack of capacity has a direct relationship with national Government objectives, in that the NHS is compromised if local care isn’t able to be provided. In addition, the connection between local and national roads is amplified by the different maintenance and capacity standards that apply to each.
Looking forward, National Government and their agencies and Local Government have to work closer together to effectively service their communities.
