Nature & Environment

The natural environment is a defining feature of the South West and plays a fundamental role in shaping infrastructure planning and delivery. This includes responding to challenges such as climate change, flooding and coastal erosion, whilst ensuring that infrastructure supports and enhances biodiversity and natural systems.

A more integrated, whole-system approach is required to balance environmental protection with the need for growth and development. Embedding environmental considerations into infrastructure decision-making will be key to improving resilience and supporting sustainable outcomes across the region. SWIP explores how a truly collaborative,  cross-sector approach can deliver a balance between environmental, community and economic needs.
